I find that I set goals for my classroom and for myself all the time as I go about my normal days. Right now is an extremely busy time in my life...I am finishing up my first year of teaching, completing my certification, working on my own business, fulfilling my obligations in the community, and... am getting married! One way that I am managing to balance all of these things at once is by getting organized, and setting goals...
1. Set a schedule, and stick to it. I am a huge fan of calendars, but find sometimes when I am overwhelmed, I will set too many goals for a day instead of a more reasonable to-do list.
2. Make time for relaxation. Yoga is one of the best ways for me to relax, and feel better throughout the day. After a great class, I am more mentally prepared for the work ahead.
3. Tweak lesson plans as I go. I have three classes that are the same, following the same lesson plan. It always amazes me what different personalities the different classes have as a whole. As a teacher, I work all the time to present my lessons, and them tweak them to fit each class.
4. Meet deadlines ahead of time.
5. Enjoy my year, and all of the excitement going on.
